So what are they?
If you´re wondering what new beginning ceremonies are all about, you´ve come to the right place. My new beginning ceremonies are about celebrating your start of something new and significant to you.
I didn´t know we could celebrate this!
We are traditionally, accustomed to celebrating symbolic weddings, funerals, christenings, baptisms, and birthdays. Why? Because these are the ones most commonly deemed worthy of public celebration in society. But there are other life-affirming and impactful moments that individuals may experience during their life’s timeline that go beyond a non-traditional wedding ceremony. Milestones like a separation, change of gender, even moving to another country or cessation of responsibilities of being a carer, for example.
Each individual’s milestone is unique, but overall, it represents a turning point that merits being acknowledged and celebrated, too. Celebrating the new beginning helps the person to put out there that this change is happening and reflects an important part of shaping who they will become, just as other traditionally celebrated ceremonies mentioned do.
Who will this type of ceremony appeal to?
This type of ceremony will appeal to anyone who values the milestones they celebrate in the process of their life’s journey, no matter how big or small they may seem to others.
What´s important to people who associate strongly with the new beginning ceremonies is their desire to create lasting memories of something they are proud of that happened in their lives. It might have been an experience that came with its challenges or made them rethink life and how they are part of it, now or in the future.
To these individuals, these celebrations are like gold and worth their value, because they will always have a physical record of this occasion. Is this you?
What might be the elements of a new beginning ceremony?
They can be similar to those of other ceremonies, including your journey to where you are today, including music, readings or speeches from you or others. Additionally, commitments and vows that you make to yourself and or others to you are all relevant. Commitments and vows in a new beginning ceremony? Sounds strange! Well, it´s not really. In weddings, couples’ commit to being there for each other, putting each other first. So this is the same and acts as a reminder of your intentions in your new journey.
Do new beginnings ceremonies include a symbolic element?
They are designed to include a symbolic element to suit your experience and reflect your intentions. They can be related to leaving parts or all of your past behind and moving forward. There are many symbolic elements, from toasts to jumping into your future, a Unity candle or planting rituals, like sowing the seeds of your new life. Rituals are great because they are highly visual and evoke many emotions in those watching or participating. The act of physically creating or doing something can lead to experiences of bonding, togetherness and help to put things into context as well as being fun. The possibilities are endless, and this is something I can help you with as we start our journey together.
How might a new beginnings ceremony touch someone?
Individuals will experience a range of emotions, from when they first enter to when they leave the ceremony space. Maybe you wish to reflect on your journey thus far. Or you are imagining moving forward, ready to embrace the new chapter in your life. It may be key for you to share some words about how you are feeling and what this celebration signifies.
Where ceremonies may take place
The ceremony location will vary for each individual, perhaps in a restaurant, hotel, or an intimate setting with a few people, could take place in a park in a quiet setting.
Who´s usually involved?
You are in control of who attends your ceremony, and decide whether to have an intimate ceremony with a few friends or family, or a larger ceremony.
Are new beginnings ceremonies formal?
Your ceremony is designed to reflect you and the type of atmosphere and feelings you want to experience.
Does the ceremony include a certificate signing?
Signing a commemorative certificate is a great way for you to record the occasion. In addition, it acts as a visual reminder when displayed in your home and can be included as part of your ceremony.
How your ceremony designed
We have an initial meeting usually by Zoom, but if you are based in Malaga capital a face-to-face may be possible. I listen to your ideas and thoughts about the what and the why. Afterwards, once you give me the green light, I will start to design your ceremony to incorporate the things that are important to you in a way that authentically reflects you. When your ceremony is ready, you get to provide feedback to make your ceremony perfect for you! How does that sound?
