Vow renewal Marbella
A beach vow renewal in Marbella, Spain was how Margaréta and Harminder chose to re-affirm their love. Living in the UK, they planned a Marbella holiday to benefit from the sun and appreciate the Spanish culture. What followed was their dream of celebrating their 10th anniversary in Marbella, now, with their 3 children as witnesses.
Aspirations for their beach vow renewal in Marbella
When I met Harminder and Margaréta, I was moved by their beautiful story of how they met. In addition, how their friendship evolved over the years, before they got together. We talked about aspirations for their day, in particular incorporating their 3 young children in the ceremony, somehow. Listening to their hopes for their special day, I discussed examples of symbolic rituals that I knew their children would love. Further more I transmitted how a ritual would not only make their ceremony more dynamic but really promote the involvement and connection with their children, even with their young ages.
What makes vow renewals in Spain popular, is the flexibility of celebrating in the location of the couples choosing, at a time that suits them. Margaréta and Harminder were keen to have a beach vow renewal, although aware of the challenges of doing so in a public space in Spain. As such a natural location off the beaten track, with the sea visible in the distance and sunny skies, was perfect. Additionally, they sought ways to make their renewal celebration unforgettable for them. Therefore it was all the more important for me to help them achieve this.
Weather conditions for an end of May vow renewal in Marbella
On average Southern Spain has 320 days of sun, therefore May is ideal for a vow renewal, elopement or wedding. Although it rains occasionally in May, everything was aligned for Margaréta and Harminder and their family. It was a perfect evening with clear blue skies, sun, but cooler based on the chosen time for the ceremony.
I was keen to commence, making Harminder and Margaréta´s 10th anniversary renewal full of the stuff they dreamed of. We worked together to chart the timeline of their beautiful love story. And in turn, I helped them re-connect with their individual journeys before their paths crossed, to finding each other.
A ceremony to represent their family now with their children
Harminder and Margaréta wanted a ceremony that represented their union, life and commitment to each other. Furthermore, they wanted something that was unique and authentic. A celebrant led ceremony offered them just that. A chance to decide where they wanted to re-new their vows and how, without limitations to wording or timings. An independent celebrant offers couples the chance to build a close relationship with the person who will officiate their ceremony. And because celebrants meet and build a strong relationship with their couples before the ceremony, a pre-existing connection is created, which, promotes confidence in the process.
Harminder and Margaréta wanted an intimate ceremony surrounded by their 3 children. As such, it was key for me to interpret their shared story in a way that brought a new dimension, memory and significance to them. Taking inspiration to write their beach vow renewal ceremony from their story, I used metaphors to reflect their personal journeys. In essence, this was their opportunity to celebrate how far they had come and reflect on how many factors fell into place in the creation of their union.
Couple´s choice of location
Marbella was the couple´s preferred choice and an authentic beach, rural destination was important to them because of theirs and their children´s love of the outdoors and nature. As such it was ideal to have a ceremony that incorporated this aspect. The couple´s chosen photographer was Lina Bodis, of Lina Bodis photography with responsibility for videography, Michal Carbol, of Michal Carbol Photography. Having worked several times with Michal, I was excited to work with him again and also to work with Lena for the first time, to help take Margaréta´s and Harminder´s dreams from paper to reality.
Both Lina and Michal listened to the couple´s requirements for their dream vow renewal and suggested the location from their knowledge and extensive bank of perfect destinations. Michal worked with the couple to plan the finer details including the decor for their ceremony. The beach location was a perfect choice for Harminder and Margaréta, grounded by the sand beneath their feet and with the sound of the seas waves in the distance as they said their “I still do´s “. It was the exact location to capture memories, that would last a lifetime.
Beach vow renewal hand-tying ritual
Margaréta and Harminder chose a beach vow renewal with a hand-tying, which is a great way to celebrate the connection of a couple and also now, for Margaréta and Harminder, their children. Their hand-tying ceremony represented Margaréta´s and Harminders´s individual lives beforehand and the journey they have experienced to becoming parents and growing their family.
As their trusted celebrant I invited their 3 children to join in the hand-tying, each placing an individual ribbon over the hands of their parents. Each ribbon was designed to include the couple´s wedding ceremony colour scheme of cream and white. In addition, I captured each of the children´s favourite colours and incorporating these into their individual ribbons, named after each child. Each ribbon represented and spoke of the personalities of each child, the importance and impact of each one in Harminder´s and Margaréta´s lives and that of their siblings.
Why have a hand-tying ritual
What makes the hand-tying ritual great fun, is the interactive quality and its colourful essence. The idea of those involved creating something beautiful together, no matter their age. Furthermore, it´s a virtual reminder of the commitments that they made to each other on their special day. The ribbon´s can be made into a spiral design or a rose and placed within a box frame of the couple´s choice. Moreover, acting as a constant reminder of the re-commitments they made on this day and as a memory for their children, this time being present.
To sum up
Margaréta and Harminder´s Marbella beach vow renewal, reflected their journey from first contact to, becoming parents and them making their re-commitments to each other surrounded by their children. It incorporated their dream location in Marbella, in addition, their hope of being on a beach with the sound of the sea waves in the background in the warm Marbella sun. They were clear about having an intimate ceremony and that´s exactly what happened. With a Celebrant, Photographer and videographer fully in their corner, they were able to have an intimate ceremony, celebrating afterwards with photos and video with their children.
